ENIGMA - Issue #1 - 5/15/96
WELCOME
Welcome to the first issue of Enigma - The Official Newsletter of the Mysterious & Unexplained.
First, I'd like thank everyone for their interest, suggestions, comments, and questions. It's exciting talking with so many people about all of the topics on the site.
Below you'll find descriptions of the newest areas added to the site as well as bits of news and information about other interesting sites I've found on the Web.
Let me know what you think of this newsletter. How's the content? Should it be longer? Or shorter? What should I add or take out?
You're comments and suggestions are appreciated. Enjoy your surfing.
Sincerely,
Bradley Keyes
OAK ISLAND UPDATE:
I've recently been contacted by a gentleman named Bill Milstead about the Oak Island information on the site. Bill has invested in and been involved with search activities on the island for some time and is in continuos contact with the searchers. He has provided me with information about some additional books for the mediagraphy and has volunteered to provide more information for the site.
*******DON'T MISS THIS*******
The first thing I'm planning to do with Bill is start an Open Interview process. Over the next month I'll be collecting questions from readers of the site (you) about Oak Island. I'll organize the questions and forward them to Bill and the other searchers. Their answers will be sent out in a future version of the Enigma newsletter and posted online.
If you have ANY questions about Oak Island, the search, or the searchers please send them to:

UFOs:
By far the most popular and most requested topic has been UFOs, about 90% of you listed them as an interest. The amount of information and areas related to UFOs is huge.
There is a lot of good information on other sites and rather than simply replicate it I'll try to provide reviews of and links to the best sites and then fill in the background and missing or incomplete information.
I've begun the UFO category with information about the Roswell Incident: the supposed crash of a UFO in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. Interest in Roswell has exploded recently, partially due to the "Alien Autopsy" video that was released last year.
If you are interested in helping get to the bottom of what really happened at Roswell, be sure to check out The Roswell Declaration (http://www.roswell.org/). This is an online petition aimed at getting the US Government to come out with the whole truth about what happened back in 1947.
ATLANTIS:
Since Ignatius Donnelly's "Atlantis - The Antediluvian World" came out in 1882, one of the main arguments, used by skeptics, against the existence of Atlantis has been that there is no evidence of any advanced civilization that far back in time - 9000 BC.
However, practically every year new discovers are made which continue to push back the dates of the beginning of civilization. The discoveries keep showing us that ancient man was more sophisticated they previously believed.
Case in point is the "discovery" of the oldest known mummy in North America. The mummy, named the Spirit Cave man, was found on the shelves of the Nevada State Museum. Discovered in Nevada in 1940 it was originally thought to be 2000 years old. Recent radiocarbon dating has pushed its age back to 9,400 years (7,400 BC).
The most intriguing facts is that the mummy was wearing moccasins and shrouds of woven marsh plants. The weave of the shrouds indicates that it was made on a loom.
If these findings turn out to be true it would mean that the there were people in North America more than 9,000 years ago with the knowledge and technology to weave cloths on looms. Such a level of sophistication again pushes back the dates of early civilization and should makes us question some long held assumptions about the primitiveness of ancient people.
DNA and other tests are being undertaken.
This certainly doesn't prove the existence of Atlantis but it does push accepted science closer to the possibility.
STONEHENGE:
I've opened up the Stonehenge topic. Currently there are only a couple pictures, some books reviews, and some links. I'll be adding information over the next several weeks.
NEXT ISSUE:
You can expect the next issue of Enigma to be sent out on 5/31/96.
Until then, happy hunting.
