Enigma - 07/16/96

ENIGMA - Issue #3 - 7/16/96

-----------------
WELCOME
-----------------

Welcome to the third issue of Enigma - The Official Newsletter of the Mysterious & Unexplained.

I would like to apologize for the LONG delay in getting this issue out. I've been swamped with other work this past month and a half and I've neglected the site. Over the next several weeks I will be adding information to the site and responding to all the e-mails that I've been letting pile up.

One other note, I'm changing Enigma to a monthly newsletter rather than biweekly. This should give me more time to invest in making the articles more in depth.

Again I apologize for the delays and promise that they will not happen again.

In this issue you'll find information about the additions to the site, a possible upcoming search for Bigfoot in Mongolia that you may be able to take part in, and a couple very interesting sites about skepticism.

Comments and suggestions as always are encouraged. Enjoy your surfing.

Sincerely,

Bradley Keyes

NEW TO THE SITE
---------------------------

CATEGORY MEDIAGRAPHY, LINKS and CONTACTS

On the site's table of contents you'll now find links to pages for mediagraphies, links, and contacts for each category on the site. Information on these pages corresponds on the items that are overviews of the various categories but are not focused on any one topic in particular.

SKEPTICISM CATEGORY ADDED & SKEPTIC'S DICTIONARY LINKS ADDED

I've started adding links for many of the skeptic sites on the net. You can find the links under the new Skepticism category in the main table of contents (http://www.activemind.com/Mysterious/index.html).

Be sure check out the links for The Skeptic's Dictionary and James Randi's Home Page. The Skeptic’s Dictionary is a large collection of articles covering many "occult" topics from a skeptical viewpoint.

James Randi, perhaps the world’s most famous skeptic, has put together some interesting material, as well as a $1 million prize for the first person to demonstrate "spoon bending" abilities.

Also, I've added links to specific Skeptic's Dictionary topics to the my topic contents pages which have entries in the dictionary.

SEARCH FOR BIGFOOT IN MONGOLIA
-----------------------------------------------------
I've recently been contacted by man named John Andrews who is planning an expedition into Mongolia to search for stories, information, and evidence of Bigfoot, or a related creature.

John has been investigating Sasquatch in the north-west region of North America for 30 years. He has conducted several expeditions into that region.

He plans to travel to Mongolia either this August or some time next year for a month-long search. His plans are to visit specific villages and mountain areas in the search for clues as to the existence of a relic hominid.

There may be a spot open in the expedition (it will be a very small team) for one more person interested in such a search.

If the search takes place next year I may take part. If you are interested you can contact me at:

bkeyes@activemind.com

or

John Andrews at mnh-crr@accessone.com

OAK ISLAND INTERVIEW WILL BE SENT OUT THIS WEEK
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The questions about Oak Island have been gathered together and will be sent to Bill Milstead this week. I want to thank everyone for their interest and excellent questions. I look forward to the answers as much as you do.

Still have questions? Although they won't make it into the first interview, if you have other questions about Oak Island, the search, or the searchers please continue to send them to:

OakIslandQuestions@activemind.com

and I'll try to get them answered in the future.

Look for the actual interview in the next couple issues of Enigma and online as well. Again, your e-mails and questions have been great. Keep up the good work.

NEW ATLANTIS THEORY
-------------------------------------
While scanning through the sci.archaeology newsgroup (see Enigma #2 or the various links pages on the site for a listing of newsgroups related to the mysterious and unexplained) I came across an announcement of a new hypothesis for Atlantis from a Russian by the name of Viatcheslav Koudriavtsev. He was offering to send his hypothesis to any interested party if they requested it by e-mail at:

explor@glas.apc.org

The basis of his hypothesis is that Atlantis did exist, much as Plato described. However, the location was off slightly. Atlantis was not located in the middle of the Atlantic, but rather on what is now referred to as the Celtic Shelf.

The Celtic Shelf is the continental shelf surrounding much of England. This area, currently underwater, was actually above water during the last ice age, over 10,000 years ago.

If you would like his entire piece, write to the address above. It's about 43 KB and goes through quite a bit of background and analysis of the major Atlantean theories.
